Tips for putting up Christmas decorations

Christmas is less than a month away, and for many it is time to dust off boxes and pull out your Christmas decorations. Luckily you do not need a 7 foot tree or an abundance of decorations to turn your home into a winter wonderland. Here are some tips and ideas to help your apartment achieve the look you want for this holiday season.

Downsize

Using smaller decorations can save a lot of room in a small space. Downsize your tree, garlands, and wreaths and use mini versions. This will keep your rooms feeling open, not cluttered. Using a small potted tree can give a holiday feel without taking up an entire corner of your room. Place smaller decorations on a shelf, coffee table, or dresser instead of placing big items on a main table or furniture. 

Use lights

Lights are simple, easy to put up, and beautiful. Using lights in your decorations can brighten any room. String lights do not take a bunch of room, there are many variations of string lights that can be used for any type of decoration. Thin string lights are perfect for wrapping around a garland or being used in minimal decorations. More traditional looking lights take up more room but are nostalgic for many. 

Utilize wall space

While an apartment can be small there is usual wall space that can be used. It could be the back of a door or the space above furniture. Use the available wall space to hang festive photos, movie quotes, and prints. If you hang anything on the back of a door, test it once you’ve secured them to ensure the pictures are not hitting the wall or at risk for getting damaged or damaging something else. Decorating an entrance or doorway can bring a little bit more holiday feeling to your home. Place a garland or string of lights around your doorway and secure Christmas cards you receive around them.
