1. Teach your kids how to cook or bake. This can be a very fun and time consuming activity that you can do with all of your kids. You could have them watch you make dinner and while they are watching you can teach them and tell them what you are doing. If your kids aren’t interested in helping make dinner see if they want to make a taste treat like maybe cookies. All kids love making cookies and it can really be a blast for the whole family.

Get any supplies you will need in advance. Going to get cleaning supplies from a closet or drawer and then finding there is none left can set back your spring cleaning time table. Running to the store takes time you may not have. Make a list and get all cleaning supplies bought and ready before you begin. This could also include packing boxes and other containers to transport or store items. 

Have specific assignments for each member of the family. This could be every person being assigned an area, or everyone working together in one room until that room is clean. When you have new neighbors move in it can be good for you to just go over and introduce yourself. When you go to introduce yourself you can take them a treat like a plate of cookies. This can be a great way to break the ice and to start getting to know them. During your introduction you can see if they have any kids and see if any of their kids are your kids’ ages. If so, encourage your kids to play with each other. 

We have all experienced it and moving into a new home can be stressful for all of us. It is important that you give your new neighbors enough space so they can start unpacking and getting used to their new home. A great way to start getting to know the new neighbors is see if they need any help unpacking or moving boxes. Service is a great way to get to know others.

Before beginning to pack, comb through all of the books going into storage. Any food, moisture, and other things stuck in between pages will cause increased damage to that book and surrounding books. Brush out any food or other debris. Take any books that are wet, or even slightly moist, let them lay out to completely dry. Check all books to ensure they are dry, then you can start packing. 

Cardboard or plastic boxes are great for packing books, as long as you do not seal the plastic boxes. Sealing these boxes seals all of the books into a tight space which can lead to mold developing or other things like dust destroying your books. Books need to be packed somewhere that gets some air flow. Be careful when placing books into your cardboard or plastic boxes to arrange them in a way that will not warp or alter your books. They should be packed tight enough to not allway tons of movement when jostled but not too tight to avoid warping. 

Having your books safely put can free up a lot of space for other books and items in your apartment. Then anytime you want to read a book in storage you can pull it out with no hassle.

Work with them

Work alongside your kids instead of watching them and supervising. Kids love spending quality time with their parents, and it helps them want to work.  Memories will be made and their room will get cleaned. If you have younger kids, find an easy way to get them involved. Doing this can help them for habits they can continue to improve. Have younger kids sort socks or pick up their toys. WIth them occupied and helping you can organize and deep clean their room. 

Take an inventory of their room

The Macy’s Thanksgiving parade is a long standing family tradition for many people. You can introduce it to your kids and make it one of your many fun holiday traditions. Kids will love watching all of the amazing floats and performances, with a few of their favorite characters as giant balloons mixed in. There are also a lot of littler parades all around the country. Do some research and see if there is one near you. If there’s get your partner or the grandparents to take the kids. 

Have them help out in the kitchen

Kids love being involved and being helpful. They can not do the major cooking but there are many small ways they can help. They could mash the potatoes, mix the salad, clean up, or frost some turkey cookies to eat after dinner. These activities are super easy, and they do not need parental supervision to accomplish them. 

Play a holiday movie

There are an abundance of holiday movies that children of all ages can enjoy. There are classics like A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, that many of us grew up on. Many services also offer an array of other holiday movies. If you are not a person opposed to Christmas before Thanksgiving then get out some of your favorite holiday classics for your kids to enjoy. 

Have them get some fresh air and play outside

Bundle your kids up in jackets, coats, gloves, and a beanie and have them get some of that excited Thanksgiving energy before your guests arrive. This will help your dinner be calmer and more relaxing. But if the weather is wet be prepared for the kids coming back into the house soaking wet.

Quarantine and COVID 19 might get in the way of doing some activities, but there are plenty of things to do. All you have to do is to remember to social distance and wear a mask. Many of our local Utah events are still up and running, with slight changes to protocol and cleaning guidelines. There is Frightmares at Lagoon, this event is the perfect combo of haunted house and fun theme park. Various pumpkin patches can be found just about everywhere, where you can get pumpkins, get lost in a corn maze, and play on whatever playground equipment they have. Haunted houses, woods, and buildings are also everywhere. Get a group of friends together and all get scared.

If you do not want to be out in public there are a variety of other activities that can be done at home. Fall desserts and baked goods are delicious and they are even more fun to bake. There are a lot of recipes that can be found online. Horror, thriller, and slasher movies play on repeat during October. These movies are a great opportunity to snuggle in close to someone you love in one of your Midvale UT Apartments.
